'A Day in the Life'

A typical day in the life of a Ski-Mountaineer !

7-00am Alarm. 

7-01 Get dressed, switch on avalanche transceiver. 

7-05 Pack rucsac, fold blankets and clear bedspace. 

7-15 Have breakfast and grab left over, for lunch, fill water bottle (I forgot to do it last night). 

7-45 Clean teeth and freshen face with snow! 

7-50 Boots on, gather skins, ice axe & crampons. 

8-00 Grab skis, poles & sac, then gather outside.

8-10 Skis on, ski to the Gurgler Ferner @ 2775m. 

8-30 Skins on, head towards the Schalfkogel Joch. 

9-10 Skis on packs @ 2830m, climb up to 2880m.

10-00 Continue skinning - with harscheisen fitted.

10-50 Schalfkogel Joch @ 3375m, take short break.

11-00 Fit crampons and ascend Kleinleiten Spitze.11-40 Summit 3445m, return to Joch for lunch.

12-45 Rope down to Nördl Schalfferner @ 3275m. 

1-30 Ski down to snout of Schalfferner @ 2480m, then continue to Auf Marzell @ 2420m. 

3-00 Skin up to Martin-Busch Haus @ 2501m. 

3-30 Arrive at hut and book in. 

4-00 Settle in to allocated dormitory. 

4-15 Drink gallons of tea, eat an apple strudel! 

5-00 Hang skins up to dry & sort out gear. 

5-30 Relax and write diary (some are taking a nap). 

7-00 Dinner is served. 

8-30 It's dark by now, people are heading to bed.
