How did 'The Book' come about? It was the fourth day of our 'Traverse of the Alps on Skis'. We had reached the Similaun Hütte on the Austrian/Italian Border by late morning and the day was still young. The sun was high in the sky. The Similaun 3609m stood there, majestically glistening in the sunshine, beckoning. After a brief rest, we were up and away. The skins on the underside of our skis rhythmically swish-swished as we slowly worked our way ever upwards to the summit. In my own little world, my mind began to wander. I had already taken lots of pictures with the objective of putting together a slide show on my return home, but this trip cried out for more. I wanted to share the experience with the world. At that moment, 'The Book' was born. After a faltering start, (about three years) I realized 'The Book' was not going to happen, unless I published it myself. Little did I know what I was letting myself in for! 'The Book' has slowly taken over the last three years of my life ("And the rest" - Jill ). It has also eaten a big hole in my pocket. Against all odds, though, 'The Book' will soon be sitting on the shelves of your local book shop waiting for a new owner. Lurking within the pages of every single copy of the book, is a part of my soul! I cannot claim that every day of the trip, or every hour spent working on the book has been a pleasure, but it has all been a great experience. Please join me and share the experience. |
